Panama's famous Pensionado Visa is consistently ranked as one of the best retirement programs in the world. Designed exclusively for retirees and pensioners, it offers a straightforward path to permanent residency with unique benefits and no government application fees.

How to apply for the Jubilado Visa in Panama successfully

You must be retired and receiving a monthly pension from a government, private company, or recognized retirement fund.

Applicants must prove they receive a monthly pension of at least $1,000 USD.

Important: The Pension Reference Certificate must explicitly state that the pension is paid "for life" or "lifelong" to qualify for the visa.

If you're a married couple applying together, here's what you need to know:

  • Minimum Combined Pension: $1,250 USD per month (total for both spouses)

  • Pension Combination: You can combine your pensions to meet the qualifying amount.

  • Retirement Status: It is not mandatory for both spouses to be retired. As long as one spouse meets the requirements, both can obtain residency.

Good to know: This thoughtful arrangement allows married couples to share the advantages of obtaining permanent residency in Panama, even if only one spouse is retired.

You can meet the requirements with a private pension plan from:

  • Banks

  • Insurance companies

  • Specialized pension fund institutions

Important Note: Other types of income are NOT accepted by Panama's migration authority:

  • ❌ Company pensions (non-lifetime)

  • ❌ Rental income

  • ❌ Investment income

  • ❌ Business profits

The pension must be structured as a true lifetime pension from an approved institution.
